How to create a Sitemap to index my store on Google

In this article we will explain how to create a ‘Sitemap’ file, which will be used to notify search engines such as Google regarding any changes or new items in your store, and allows the search engine to index your site correctly.

You can install a Google Sitemap with PrestaShop through the back office. The Google Sitemap will help Google to track updates on your website on a daily basis. Google stores the tracked information and then submits the data to the search engine to improve rankings for organic searches.

To create it, you will need to follow these steps:

1. Go to the backoffice of your PrestaShop and go to Modules> Modules & Services.

2. When you get to this section, go to the “Installed modules” tab. In the search engine, type “sitemap” and click Enter. You will see the module. Choose “Configure”.

3. Check the options that you find appropriate. If you do not know which options you should choose, just leave the ones that appear by default. Click, “Generate sitemap”.

4. Automatically, the sitemap URLs will be generated in the different languages of our store. To update the sitemap automatically, you must create a scheduled task on the server. In order to do that, you should contact your server provider and send him the URL that appears on the 2nd step of the image above. Ask your provider to create a Cron task to load the URL.

5. Your sitemap is already generated. Now you must send it to the search engines! In the case of Google, you’ll have to use Google Search Console.
