How to configure my email server and send email alerts from my dropshipping store

These are the steps we use to configure the email which we want to use to receive all the notifications regarding our online store.

Setting up the mail server

In order to receive emails about purchases made in your store, or to send emails to tell your customers about something related to the store, you must have configured a mail server with Prestashop.

Important: You must set up a mail server and they will provide the data for configuring your server with Prestashop. The following information is intended as a general guide, but your email server provider will provide the complete information you need regarding the settings.

To configure the mail server in Prestashop you must follow the following steps:

  1. Go to Advanced parameters > email (point 1).
  2. In the email section (item 2) Choose the second option: Set my own SMTP parameters. For advanced users only (point 3).
  3. Save (point 4).
  4. Then, in the second email section (point 5) You must fill in the fields as follows:
    1. Emails domain (point 6): Must be empty
    2. SMTP server (point 7): smtp.mydomain xx
    3. SMTP user name (point 8): smtp@mydomain.xx/info@mydomain.xx
    4. Password (item 9): Password assigned to previously assigned mail
    5. Encryption (point 10): SSL or TLS
    6. Port (Point 11): 465 (If you have written SSL) or 587 (if you have written TLS)
  5. Save (point 4).

Checking the settings

Prestashop has a section for verifying that the configuration has been done correctly. In order to do this action, you must follow these steps:

  1. Go to Advanced parameters > email (point 1).
  2. In the Check Your Email Settings section (point 2) write a valid email that will be used as a test (point 3).
  3. Press the “Send a Test Email” button (point 4).
  4. You will be shown a message in a box when you finish the process. If the box is green, the process has been satisfactorily completed. If the box is red these means the test email couldn’t be sent.

This is how we’ll know that we have correctly configured the email for our online store.
