How to use Shopify Markets on our Shopify online store

Shopify Markets is a new feature offered by Shopify, ecommerce software, which is a very useful tool to boost our business internationally, by having everything in one place, i.e., centralised and of course automated.

What can we do with Shopify Markets?

Thanks to this new Shopify functionality, we will be able to sell our products in new marketplaces and manage everything from one platform.

Set up your store in different currencies

With Shopify Markets you will be able to offer your products in 133 different currencies with the Shopify Payments module.

Translate our store contents

Through the multi-language functionality, you can translate your Shopify shop into up to 20 different languages.

Domain extensions by country (local)

Shopify Markets offers different local domains with SEO optimisation to facilitate our entry into new international markets.

Calculate duties and taxes automatically

With Shopify Markets you can automatically calculate the duties and taxes due in each country where you sell. These taxes and duties will be detailed on the payment screen. In addition, Shopify Markets offers the option of integrating local payment methods.

Customise prices for each market

Another option offered by Shopify Markets is the option of creating a different pricing strategy for each of the international markets in which you are selling.

Does Shopify charge for this service?

Shopify Markets will apply some commission for international sales, as detailed below:

  • Commission of 2% per order when currency conversion is made.
  • Commission of 0.85% for each order when calculating taxes and duties with Shopify Payment and 1.5% commission when doing it through other payment methods.
  • Different charges according to the type of local payment used by users, which can be validated on the platform.

Advantages of using Shopify Markets

  • Access to new international markets. Option to operate outside our local environment more easily.
  • Updated information on taxes and duties in each country. Easy to comply with customs.
  • Time and cost savings by managing all markets from one platform
  • Increased visibility, brand improvement, and increased sales thanks to the internationalisation of our business.

How can I use Shopify Markets?

In your Shopify online shop dashboard go to Settings > Marketplaces.

NOTE:
if it does not appear, you can request access from that same area or from the Shopify Markets page

Once inside Markets, you will see a control panel from where you can add and configure the different markets in which you want to start selling.

To start including new markets for our online store, click Add Market.

Enter a name for the market you wish to add and select the countries that will be part of it. You can add several continents or countries to the same market (for example, those that use the same currency, and the same language could go in the same market).

Now that you’ve added the markets you want, it’s time to set them up. To configure a market click Manage to access the settings.

From here you can access all the necessary settings to start selling on this market:

  • Domain, language and currency
  • Shop settings
  • Shipping settings
  • Tax and duty settings

From here you can also see an overview of the performance of that marketplace, such as sales %, sales as well as conversion rate or value.
